A branding photoshoot showcases your brand. It puts a face behind a corporate name, makes your business relatable, and attracts potential customers. No matter the industry, people always buy from people.

You have a much higher chance of attracting your dream clients when you use your personality. Slogans, promises, and unique selling propositions only go so far.

Not many people are professionally showcasing their personalities. So this is your chance to stand out! But, where do you start?

Keep reading to find out how a branding photoshoot can put you and your business on the map. I'll also share

Branding photography ideas

A brand photoshoot starts way before you book a photographer. First, sit down and think about your brand overall:

What do you want to stand for?

What do you want people to think about your business?

What words, colours, sounds, and associations do you want to connect to your brand?

If you've already done this groundwork, amazing! Now, narrow this thought process to photography. Consider:

What colours do you want to showcase in photos?

Do you want a lighter or a darker vibe?

Does it make sense to do the branding photoshoot outdoors or indoors?

Can you bring any props that match the colour and style of your brand?

Do you want to appear polished, professional and smart? Or maybe fun, light-hearted and approachable?

Remember - there are no right or wrong answers to these questions! It's only about your preference.

The key is consistency.

In other words, if your website is all light & airy, your Instagram is dark and moody, and your photoshoot is fun and filled with colour pops...you'll have a disconnect.

Why should you be consistent? Because it'll be easier to remember you.

Think about some prominent brands you know and love. Coca-Cola is red, happy, and all about Christmas. Nike is empowering, sleek, and black & white. Which one do you wanna be?

Branding photoshoot locations

I promise this gets easier as you go! Let's talk outfits & locations.

Now you know what kind of vibe you're going for. For example, let's say you're a mindfulness coach. You might want to show a peaceful and bright environment where your clients will feel comfortable opening up.

There are lots of amazing studios in Toronto that can help you translate this message. My favourite include:

Look through the images and see which studio speaks to you. Refer back to the colours you picked for your brand. Which studios feature those colours?

Work with your photographer to find the best studio for your brand.

Keep in mind: studios come with an extra cost. Alternatively, you can do a branding photoshoot:

  • In your home (provided there's a big source of light you can face - i.e. a big window)
  • Common areas in your condo (party room, hall, patio)
  • Outdoors (in the city or in a park, depending on your brand)

Branding photoshoot Outfits

Now it's time to pick what you're wearing. This is usually the most exciting part.

Once again, look back at the colours and styles you selected for your brand and pick your outfits accordingly.

Maybe you're building a social media agency. Go for a more professional look, but still add a bit of your personality. I'm talking:

  • Blazer
  • Statement necklace or earrings
  • Jeans
  • Loafers
  • Laptop
  • Coffee mug with a motivational quote

Another very important consideration: match the outfit to your surroundings.

For example, if we picked a park, and you wear stilettos, it might look a bit off. Not to mention - you might struggle to walk on those heels in the park.

Branding photography poses

A branding photoshoot might seem boring. It's just an extended version of a headshot, right?

Not exactly. You can keep it formal and very professional. But brands that inflict their personalities typically stand out more.

That's why I always encourage my clients to get creative with their poses. I put together this branding photoshoot mood board with some ideas for you.

Based on the style you choose, you can use some of these poses:

  • Sitting down with a coffee mug
  • Working on your laptop
  • Looking at your phone
  • Taking a selfie
  • Using props of your trade (pen & notebook, camera, paintbrush, etc)
  • Jumping on bed
  • Skipping on the street
  • Close-up of looking straight into the camera
  • Close-up of looking away from the camera
  • Organizing Q-cards, notebooks, and other props
  • Drinking coffee/tea/water/fun drink
  • Dancing to your favourite tunes
  • Adjusting your hair
  • And so much more

Have fun with your brand

Chances are, you didn't build a business to work on something boring. Maybe boredom, dry corporate lingo, and stock images all made you start your own thing in the first place. Now that this is your brand, have fun with it! There's no right or wrong here. You get to show your unique self and attract similar people. Working with them will be so much easier and more pleasant.

To attract those ideal clients, show the real you. Don't be afraid to laugh, be silly, jump around, and wear your favourite clothes.

A good photographer will help you put it all together. They will also make it fun and effortless. Before you know it, you'll have photos for your website, social media, and print materials for years to come!
